Dans un premier temps, des \u00e9tudes des savanes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9es \u00e0 Moanda pour comprendre les diff\u00e9rentes formations v\u00e9g\u00e9tales associ\u00e9es et les esp\u00e8ces cl\u00e9s qui font la qualit\u00e9 et la sant\u00e9 de ces habitats. La caract\u00e9risation s\u2019est ensuite poursuivie sur les savanes de la r\u00e9serve.<\/p>\n<p>Actuellement, nous testons l&rsquo;impact des ruminants sur les savanes et d\u00e9veloppons de nouvelles pratiques de restauration favorisant la symbiose. En effet, les activit\u00e9s humaines ont favoris\u00e9 l\u2019introduction et la propagation de ces esp\u00e8ces dans des environnements qu\u2019elles ne coloniseraient pas naturellement.<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;herbe de Laos, scientifiquement connue sous le nom de <em>Chromolaena odorata<\/em>, est une plante envahissante qui pose un s\u00e9rieux probl\u00e8me \u00e9cologique dans les savanes gabonaises. Originaire d&rsquo;Am\u00e9rique centrale et du Sud, cette esp\u00e8ce a \u00e9t\u00e9 introduite accidentellement en Afrique et s&rsquo;est rapidement propag\u00e9e en raison de sa capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 coloniser divers habitats.<\/p>\n<p>Sa croissance rapide et sa capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00e9touffer les plantes locales font de l&rsquo;herbe de Laos une menace pour la biodiversit\u00e9 des savanes gabonaises. Elle \u00e9puise les nutriments du sol, d\u00e9savantageant les esp\u00e8ces natives et perturbant les \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes locaux. La lutte contre cette plante envahissante est essentielle pour pr\u00e9server la sant\u00e9 et la diversit\u00e9 des habitats du Gabon.<\/p>\n<p>En r\u00e9ponse \u00e0 la prolif\u00e9ration de l&rsquo;herbe de Laos sur un site d&rsquo;int\u00e9r\u00eat, la Fondation a men\u00e9 des essais en 2023 et 2024 pour contr\u00f4ler cette esp\u00e8ce envahissante. Trois m\u00e9thodes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 test\u00e9es :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dessouchage complet<\/strong> : Cette m\u00e9thode offre des r\u00e9sultats rapides, mais expose temporairement le sol. Une manipulation d\u00e9licate est n\u00e9cessaire pour \u00e9viter d&rsquo;endommager les sols et la banque de graines des esp\u00e8ces end\u00e9miques.<\/li>\n<li><strong>R\u00e9duction foliaire suivie de dessouchage<\/strong> : La croissance rapide de l&rsquo;herbe de Laos \u00e9puise les nutriments du sol, ce qui d\u00e9savantage les esp\u00e8ces natives.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Coupe rase sans dessouchage<\/strong> : Les r\u00e9sultats sont similaires \u00e0 ceux de la m\u00e9thode pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Le dessouchage complet donne d&rsquo;excellents r\u00e9sultats, bien qu&rsquo;il soit exigeant en main-d&rsquo;\u0153uvre. Les questions centrales du projet concernent l\u2019\u00e9volution de la socialit\u00e9 (s\u00e9lection de parent\u00e8le, relations h\u00f4tes-parasites).<\/p>\n<p>Ce projet est rendu possible gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un contexte unique au monde fourni par la r\u00e9serve : parmi les diff\u00e9rents groupes de mandrills (+ 300) qui \u00e9voluent en totale libert\u00e9 dans le Parc, certains sont habitu\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019homme et permettent donc aux chercheurs de les approcher et de les observer dans leur quotidien. Une \u00e9quipe de chercheurs est log\u00e9e au <a href=\"https:\/\/lekedi-biodiversite.org\/le-parc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Parc de la L\u00e9k\u00e9di<\/a> et collecte quotidiennement ou ponctuellement des donn\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>Le projet Mandrillus utilise des technologies avanc\u00e9es, comme l&rsquo;<strong>intelligence artificielle<\/strong> et les <strong>r\u00e9seaux neuronaux profonds<\/strong>, pour analyser des milliers de portraits de mandrills. L\u2019objectif est clair : mieux comprendre, \u00e9valuer et pr\u00e9server la biodiversit\u00e9, en concevant des outils modernes, accessibles et reproductibles pour la gestion durable des \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes au Gabon.<\/p>\n<p>Ce proof of concept vise \u00e0 concevoir, d\u00e9ployer et valider un syst\u00e8me \u00e9volutif de suivi de la biodiversit\u00e9, appliqu\u00e9 au site minier de Comilog et \u00e0 la r\u00e9serve de la L\u00e9k\u00e9di. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des images satellites \u00e0 tr\u00e8s haute r\u00e9solution, des analyses automatis\u00e9es par IA et des observations de terrain g\u00e9olocalis\u00e9es via smartphone, le dispositif permet de :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>d\u00e9tecter la pr\u00e9sence d\u2019<strong>esp\u00e8ces v\u00e9g\u00e9tales exotiques envahissantes (EEE)<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li>\u00e9valuer l\u2019\u00e9tat \u00e9cologique et la <strong>diversit\u00e9 v\u00e9g\u00e9tale<\/strong> de cinq parcelles de savane,<\/li>\n<li>et d\u00e9montrer la faisabilit\u00e9 d\u2019une solution <strong>int\u00e9gr\u00e9e, fiable et \u00e9conomiquement viable<\/strong> pour le suivi environnemental.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>L\u2019exp\u00e9rimentation repose sur quatre \u00e9tapes compl\u00e9mentaires. Elle d\u00e9bute par la <strong>cartographie des habitats<\/strong> \u00e0 partir des images satellites, enrichie par l\u2019IA pour identifier les zones sensibles et les esp\u00e8ces invasives. Une phase de <strong>smart sampling<\/strong> oriente ensuite les relev\u00e9s de terrain selon la variabilit\u00e9 \u00e9cologique. Le <strong>ground-truthing<\/strong>, r\u00e9alis\u00e9 par les \u00e9quipes locales form\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019application mobile Mozaic Earth, permet de collecter des photos et donn\u00e9es g\u00e9olocalis\u00e9es, m\u00eame hors connexion. Enfin, les \u00e9cologues partenaires analysent les informations, affinent les mod\u00e8les d\u2019IA, d\u00e9tectent les EEE et produisent des <strong>tableaux de bord dynamiques<\/strong> pour le suivi.<\/p>\n<p>Au-del\u00e0 de la preuve scientifique, ce projet illustre la <strong>capacit\u00e9 d\u2019innovation collaborative<\/strong> entre acteurs industriels, scientifiques et technologiques.
